About the exhibition
The exhibition project Colony of Rainforests will present the results of more than a year of artistic and field research by the Slovak artist Jana Bednárová. The aim of the research, coined as “Terrarium”, is the conservation of collected moments from the wild nature of Northeast India. In the creative process, the author gradually moved from the role of collector to the role of creator – manipulator, working with ready-made natural material, from which she subsequently created a living sculpture, operating with the metaphor of human participation in the creation of the external social world and ecosystem. More classic works created with natural materials such as pigments, silk, or handmade paper, inspired by the traditional art techniques of Southeast Asia, will be presented in juxtaposition with a bio-art installation made out of collected artifacts of orchids and open the questions related to contemporary postcolonial and environmental discourses in the exhibition.
