About exhibition
Academic painter Oľga Bartošíková (born 1922) is celebrating her one hundredth’ birthday in 2022. To mark this unique event in Slovak art culture, the artist’s hometown of Holíč has organised the first of a series of exhibitions curated by PhDr. Bohumír Bachratý. It is a selection of contemporary works from the artist’s property as well as pieces from a private collection and the collection of the Municipal Museum and Gallery in Holíč. On this occasion, the town has issued a commemorative zero banknote with a portrait of the artist.

Another exhibition and homage to the artist has been planned for the second half of August and September in the Záhorie Gallery of Ján Mudroch in Senica, where the artist is presenting the works owned by the Záhorie Gallery along with her latest artwork. The opening of the exhibition is accompanied by a chamber concert performed by the Belcanto Duo (Miloš and Mária Hoschekovci, vocal and piano).
Born and bred in the region of Záhorie, Oľga Bartošíková has also drawn creative inspiration from her childhood and youth. She did her first drawings, sculptures, landscapes and portraits in her native Holíč and at the grammar school in Skalica. She studied with Professor Ján Želibský at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 1945 – 1950. Since 1957 he has lived and worked in Bratislava. She became a member of the Union of Slovak Visual Artists, and in 1958 – 1966 a member of the unique Group 4 together with Jarmila Čihánková, Tamara Klimová and Viera Kraicová. Since 1989, she has been a member of the Slovak Union of Visual Art and a co-founder of the Society of Free Visual Artists. Oľga Bartošíková is still actively involved in the creative process. She has devoted herself to painting (oils and mixed media), but also to drawing and works of art for architecture projects.
Portraits, self-portraits, figurative compositions, still lifes with flowers and fruits dominate the wide range of her artwork and so do landscapes, nature, motifs of cathedrals, old Holíč in memories and symbolic monuments, memorials…
Quoting a poem, the artist tells us: “you just have to look” to see and to know.
